There’s no canon order of playing through this game, much like any other Rockman title, so I decided to pick a stage that will follow the continuity of the scene that happens after the first stage. The ones that require A-Trans in order to save all 16 Injured Repliroids (Stonekong, Hyenard and Ariquick’s stages) are out. I chose Vanishing Gungaroon on my first walkthrough so I’ll do this again!
(Also, yeah, Vanishing Gangarun will be called “Vanishing Gungaroon“ because I like the way it’s being written. Apparently Gangarun is how his name was written in some official Japanese sourses, but I prefer the other variant of it. At least it doesn’t change the meaning of his name...)
The recording of this part alone is a story worth sharing, so I’ll tell it before I’ll try to describe this stage.
The first roadblock for me happened in a morning, like, a week ago. My headphones commited harakiri and the only ones I had left were my old really awfully sounding ones. I was afraid they could mess up the recorded audio so I started to wait for the new ones to arrive (since the “tin can sound“ issue I had before happened because of my now-dead headphones changing the sound settings in total secretecy or something).
When I got the new headphones, I recorded the stage in one go, but forgot to record Zero’s interaction with the boss. I decided to do that on the next day and... I woke up with a really nasty infection in my left thumb. It felt like a splinter when I touched it, but it looked like a gross white pimple. It was aching a bit too much for me to try and go through the stage again to record one missing dialogue. Luckily, the pain disappeared the very next day (although my thumb still looks a bit gross).
I recorded the missing dialogue and went to bed... AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT MORNING
My PC just broke. Particularly Windows was stopping me from getting into my profile so I couldn’t do a thing now with the recodings. Thank God I fixed everything under an hour by changing some values in regestry, ahaha.
Soooo, I think X7 might be cursed but I still need to record everything that this game has to offer. Cool.
This stage is entirely in 3D, but it wasn’t as bad as some other stages. Ride Armors are kinda fun to control, although the hit detection here is wierd. As you can see, some “bomb“ things don’t get destroyed at first and you need to stop walking in front of the gates in order to trigger the Section Transition scene. The “crab“ Ride Armor (that actually is a modified version of Raiden Ride Armor from X4 and X5) has a really nice dash attack that can destroy Ride Armor enemies in one hit and also you can stomp the enemies, so I’d recommend you to get to the boss room while riding this one. The blue one won’t be as useful in the fight.
Anyway, we meet Vanishing Gungaroon riding his own Ride Armor. And here comes the issue of starting X7 from his stage. This kid (hee-hee) is adorable, but he can be an absolute monster in the gameplay if your RNG is really bad (had him constantly use Triangle Kick after Triangle Kick for three minutes straight while I was beating him for the second time for Zero’s confrontation dialogue. Too bad I didn’t really record it). I’m going through this game on Hard Mode btw. This doubles Gungaroon’s HP and that wouldn’t be that big of an issue if he didn’t have *two* *healthbars* . Also the camera in this game just does not want to cooperate with you at all. I just got so used to beating Gungaroon weaponless that he wasn’t much of a threat for me.
And that’s how I accidently made a No Damage, No Weapons run of this stage. The game just doesn’t count the damage recieved while riding the Ride Armor.
But for some reason, Zero was the one who got Ranked-Up to GA and Axl is still a D rank. Narratively, it makes sense, but still.
And then the scene happens where Axl tells Zero why he left Red Alert. That’s the first time when the kid shows and explains his A-Trans ability. Also localization really didn’t want to translate the last phrase said by Axl so they made him and Zero sound like (pardon me) retards, lol.
This little chat will continue in the next comes the big Monkey!
