Welcome to another edition of Dungeon Synth Sunday on the Transmissions channel - my weekly occasion to explore black metal’s adjacent worlds of DS, dark ambient, occult folk and other esoteric forms of ambience. I have four releases for you again this week, starting with the new album from French artist Noir Donjon . Recluse is an elegantly sombre development from the debut demo of last year, and the shift in artwork palette from the lysergic browns towards a sterner monochrome signals the change in mod of the music too. Dark dungeon ambient, as the title suggests, is an intimate soundtrack to a withdrawal from the light, to an enveloping solitude, shade and encroaching darkness, halfway between hibernation and obliteration.
