Nino Rota (1911-1979) is likely the most remembered of 20th Century Italian composers for his brilliant film scores, from which The Godfather (1972) is his most famous. A longtime collaborator with renowned filmmakers Fellini and Visconti, his music was important part from the neorealist Italian films of the age. His music, always in a romantic manner, was out of tune with the modernist and avant-garde schools of the time, yet it remained always approachable. His Symphony on a Love song makes use of the tune and develops it in a conventional manner; it appeared before even being premiered as soundtrack from Visconti’s Il Gattopardo and Henry Cass’ The Glass Mountain.
