This concept brings us on a musical voyage through the Balkans. The
formation comprises musicians from the nations of ex-Yugoslavia. The
instrumentation is based on combined world and rock style, while
incorporating traditional folk instruments such as the kaval, dude, tapan,
zurlan, tambura... The formation also includes the Ethno-Brass Orchestra,
a typical specimen of Serbian and Gypsy traditions. The repertoire goes
from Yugoslavian folk music, including a few jewels of Gypsy music, to the
songs of the Yugo-Rock tradition. Slovenian composer and musician Vasko Atanasovski assembled several singers and musicians who represent these different musical styles also through their original compositions. Tamara Obrovac works towards resuscitating and transforming Istrian music. Damir Imamovic takes us to the Sevdah Blues, the Kontrec brothers astonish us with the powerful gypsy soul. Vesna Petkovic is a wonderful singer that fluxuates between Balkan Folk style and Jazz. Dragan Dautovski bewitches with the music of Macedonia. Coinciding with the general theme of the repertoire is an
artistic approach that, with its brilliant compositional touches, combines
different musical styles in a refreshing eclectic imagery that reflects the
energy and expression of Balkan music. The vocal interpretation is
composed of instrumental virtuosity, the moments of drama go from a
refined minimalism to a certain folly of instrumental and choral drama.
