This Time – Danny Elfman / Oingo Boingo | Rare Nightmare Before Christmas

This Time – A rare song by Oingo Boingo written for the Nightmare Before Christmas (possibly the credits) but never made the finished movie. Recorded around the time of the Boingo album in 1994. A snapshot of when Boingo was as much a part of Elfman’s music as his film scoring before he retired from rock music. He fell out with Tim Burton on this project; one rumour says due to the amount of work Elfman put into the movie, he wanted it to be billed as ’Tim Burton & Danny Elfman’s Nightmare Before Christmas’, but Burton wouldn’t allow. The removal of this song is perhaps a part of that falling out. Moments in ’This Time’ such as Bartek’s solo and the strings sound similar to another unreleased Boingo song, ’Vultures’. Suggest when that song was cut, it was rewritten into this, or vise versa. This track wasn’t even known to exist before it was released on the limited run Elfman & Burton music box. If only more of the band’s tapes from that period could be found for proper release.
