Format: 16mm / Sound: Mono / Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Large winged insects prey on humans in a pre-industrial landscape. A human transforms into a winged creature after being attacked. ‘Shadowland’, displays the beginnings of Anthony Lucas’ distinct animation style and talent, which lead to him being nominated for both an Academy Award and selected for Cannes Film Festival. The technique employed in ‘Shadowland’ was discovered accidentally by Lucas when a light went off at an animation table. The use of highly textured organic material crafted from found objects appealed to his interest in adventure, horror and gothic tales. This work planted the seed for future development for his television station identifications for SBS and films including ‘Holding Your Breath’, based on a story written by Stuart Page.
