Martian frost unearthed by Viking Lander 2

Discovery made by the Viking Lander 2 on Mars - the detection of ice on the Red Planet. The Viking Lander 2 was a crucial part of NASA’s Viking program, designed to investigate the mysteries of Mars. Equipped with advanced instruments, this robotic lander successfully carried out experiments to determine the composition of the Martian soil and search for signs of life. One of the significant findings was the presence of ice, which was confirmed through multiple scientific methods. Temperature measurements revealed freezing temperatures, soil samples contained water vapor and volatiles, and spectroscopic measurements detected water-ice layers. These empirical findings solidify the claim of ice on Mars. Viking 2 landed on Utopia Planitia. To visualise where the spacecraft landed, I included high-quality renderings, available in 4K resolution, to help us better understand the location of ice on the Red Planet.
