The crackdown was initiated under The Emergencies Act invoked by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and was criticized by many politicians and civil rights advocates as a “government overreach“ and a “power grab.“ The crackdown took place despite the fact that the federal judge has reaffirmed the right of Canadians to continue their peaceful assembly in Ottawa. Additionally, under the law, the Act does not prohibit peaceful assembly — and yet, it was abused to order the military crackdown. Under the law, the Emergencies Act still has to be app
