The Blues, without a string of regular starters, weathered an early storm from the hosts and needed Jordan Pickford to make a series of saves before Spurs broke the deadlock on 14 minutes through Yves Bissouma. Heung-Min Son pounced on a Pickford error to double the advantage and, despite an improved showing from Everton after the break, Tottenham added further goals from Cristian Romero and another Son effort.
