162: Dan’s Dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus “Monarch“ Revsit

Dan’s Dinosaurs is no stranger to most of us in the collecting world, but did you know that Dan has his own line of dinosaurs? Produced in cooperation with some of the best palaeoartists, Dan offers dinosaurs both in resin form as well as finished. In this first of a new series of dinosaurs from Dan’s, I’m going to revisit my first dinosaur from the line, The Monarch Tyrannosaurus, finished by the great Martin Garratt. My very first high end model in the small scale range, experiencing what was possible with a really good sculpt and a masterful paint application opened my eyes to a whole new genre of collecting. I think you’ll see that here in the way the paints are built up over many layers, creating a translucency so reminiscent of real subcutaneous pigmentation. This is still my favourite 1:40 model, and I can’t wait to revisit the other dinosaurs in the range.
