Gassiev faced the former WBO European heavyweight champion Michael Wallisch for the vacant WBA Asia heavyweight title on 22 July 2021, at the Dynamo Volleyball Arena in Moscow, Russia.[58] Gassiev dropped Wallisch with a combination of a body shot and an overhand right near the end of the fourth round. Although Wallisch was able to beat the ten count, he was stopped quickly after with a flurry of punches from Gassiev.
