HMONG TEXTILE TRADITION

Hmong or H’mong clothing is mainly made from locally grown Hemp, one of the fastest growing plants and one of the first plants to be spun into usable their long history, the Hmong have had a rich tradition of hemp weaving. Hmong women use either backstrap looms or floor wooden loom. Batik, wax-resist dyeing, is applied on to hemp cloth with free hand painting pattern then dipped three or four times, or more, in indigo dye.
