Gujo Hachiman is a town of water and a castle in Gifu Prefecture. There are canals in the town and people wash vegetables and clothes there. Gujo Hachiman-jo or Gujo Hachiman castle was constructed in 1559 and demolished in 1870. After that, it was reconstructed in 1933. The holes on the walls of the castle are called “sama“ and it means “arrow-slit“. During a war, samurai aimed arrows and guns at enemies through them.
