Jonestown

When we wrote Jonestown, we were thinking a lot about Weezer’s record Pinkerton which has great song structures and melodies. Therefore, the verse became dynamic and then landed in a more straight chorus. We wrestled for a long time with what the verse should be like, until we finally figured out that if we just took a lot of stuff away, and keep the verse pretty simple and straight forward, it sits perfectly. And after that the build-up to the chorus fell into place pretty quickly. The text is somewhat inspired by events that took place in the jungle, in the deepest of Guyana. Jonestown kicks off with a catchy riff that makes you want to dance and lands in a chorus you want to sing along to. A very strong track if you ask us with a text that is vaguely inspired by its namesake in Guyana only adds relevance in today’s society where we question less and less. The lyrics are about being knocked over, and how to gather enough force to get back up. We question less and less, while comparing ourselves more and more. Too often from a destructive perspective where we only compare to chase flaws in focus is seldom examining and vetting the opinions of those who are in the public light, and more often to question those around us, close to us. In an age where source criticism never has been needed as much as now - but has been replaced by godliness to our prophets online - we wonder who we really should look up to, the ones you trust, or the ones you follow.
