The oldest traces of “Tahtib” were found on engravings from the archaeological sites of ancient Egypt.
‘Tahtib” is the term for a traditional stick-fighting martial art that follows a strict code of rules which respect & build camaraderie.
The original martial version of “Tahtib” later evolved into an Egyptian folk dance with a wooden stick, commonly known as a “stick dance“.
Music in “TAHTIB” features the tabl (bass drum) and mizmar (folk oboe)
A national festival for the martial art & dance and music of “TAHTIB” is held annually in Luxor at the last week of December
