SILKROAD | “Vaishnavi“ with Sandeep Das (tabla) and Shawn Conley (bass) at Rothko Chapel

“Vaishnavi“ is the result of a 2018 residency at the Freer|Sackler museum in Washington, DC, during which Silkroad artists created new music that explored their many personal, geographic, and historical connections — expected and not — to objects on view throughout the galleries. “Vaishnavi,“ written by Sandeep Das, is inspired by a 10th-century sculpture of Queen Sembiyan Mahadevi as the Goddess Parvati.
