Gerald Finzi : Eclogue for Piano and Strings. Edward Wilkins Waite : Paintings.
Finzi’s “Eclogue for Piano and String Orchestra“ is played here by the New Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Vernon Handley. The pianist is Peter Katin. Originally intended as the slow movement of a piano concerto, the piece remained unperformed during the composer’s lifetime and, indeed, was only given its title posthumously. An eclogue is a short pastoral poem.
The paintings are by the English landscape artist Edward Wilkins Waite.
