Rusty Mining Pickaxe Restoration - Vintage 1950’s HYTEST Miners Pick Axe.
I posted a shorts video over on my second channel “Double R Salvage“ (this is where i upload all the shorts videos, mainly so they don’t clog up the feed of the main channel along with all the junk finds, unusual finds for future projects, and general workshop news) of my next restoration project.
This axe was made in Australia, at what point i cannot be sure but it is pre-mid 1960’s as i’m told that’s when the Hytest company / brand was sold. It has its fair share of aged pitting and that’s where i come to a standstill.
I was undecided as to whether i go for a FULL clean and polish or general clean up and retain some of it’s aged character, i do believe that not every restoration has to take an item back to new in may as well go buy a new one if that was the case, but it is an option.
