In it, she bravely introduced a black heiress from Antigua who came to a small seaside resort town that was being actively developed by three brothers - The Parkers. We can only imagine that before her death, Jane Austen was willing to take on the complexities of racism and a changing world that was less about the wealthy and more about the self-made man in the way she alone could with her insight, cleverness, and humor.
