Bach / Gounod / René Leibowitz, 1961: Ave Maria (New Symphony Orchestra of London)

René Leibowitz (1913-1972) leads the New Symphony Orchestra of London in his arrangement of the Bach-Gounod version of Ave Maria. I created this video from the LP that you can see at the conclusion of this presentation, issued in 1974 by Reader’s Digest as part of the “Great Music Greatest Hits“ series. (The LPs in this collection were manufactured by RCA). This recording was made in 1961, possibly earlier.
