President Putin has revoked a decree which outlined Russia’s foreign policy 11 years ago. The decree, which envisioned closer ties with the EU and the US, included a Moldova component. In part, the 2012 document underpinned Moldova’s sovereignty in resolving the dispute over the breakaway region of Transnistria. Separately, Russia’s defence ministry accused Ukraine of planning to invade the Moscow-backed Transnistria region. Meanwhile, US President Biden met his Moldovan counterpart in Poland in a strong show of American support for Moldova’s sovereignty.
