Two Approaches to Watercolor Painting | Direct VS Layered

In this one I want to share with you two approaches to watercolor painting. The first is a more direct, “fill in the blanks“ approach. This is great for working faster / outdoors / in a sketchbook that can’t handle many washes. In this approach you simply paint all the different shapes that you see, and it involves a lot of negative painting. The second is a more organized approach of full washes, and glazing. This is when you make sure to create an initial even wash that’s well blended together. You then layer on top of that, while trying to create as large washes as possible, while slowly building up the details and smaller shapes. This is the more classic
