Otani ware (traditional products in our daily lives)

The Otani area in Tokushima Prefecture, where the 200 year old tradition of making Otani ware exists, is the only place in Japan where large porcelain works are made using the “Ne-rokuro“ technique in which a large wheel is operated by two people. Local clay is used to make Otani ware. The clay contains large amounts of iron and has a rough finish when baked.
