Ranting about “Grand Theft Auto Clones“

People give Grand Theft Auto too much credit. GTA absolutely fine tuned open world games to an amazing degree, but there were many games already heading in that direction, Rockstar just happened to make it to six gen first. Perhaps that’s why people never referred to GTA as a Driver clone. That and Driver 2 came out on the PS1 right when the PS2 was launched. So maybe driver 2 flew under the radar, maybe the controversy spotlighted GTA more, whatever. The point is that it’s unfair to criticize a game fo
