Commentary by “TOKYO samurai EDGE SHIDEN-RYU“ providing this video.
This is the promotional video for introducing Japanese traditional art; “Tate“ (Japanese Sword Fighting), and “Kenbu“ (Sword Dance).
Tate is the art of choreographed samurai fighting with swords. The motions of Tate are derived from Kabuki. This art requires very strong concentration and special awareness to avoid injury. We regard Tate as a one of the Japanese cultural properties.
Kenbu is a kind of the weapon dance with Japanese swords and Sensu (Japanese fan). It is performed both solo and in groups. Kenbu demonstrates the skill of traditional samurai, and it is representative of the samurai spirit of modern Japanese.
