Cross-Border Kantele: Finnish folk song “Eriskummainen kantele“

Finnish folk song “Eriskummainen kantele,” performed by Ensemble ”Kantele” together with two Finnish kantele players: Minna Raskinen and Hanna Ryynänen. This recording was made in Ilomantsi (Finland), on 12 October 2019. This joint Finnish-Russian kantele concert was organized by the Kantele Goes Global project. Our project seeks to promote cross-border cooperation between Finnish, Russian and Karelian kantele players. We also seek to promote internationalization and popularization of kantele music worldwide by means of intercultural synthesis. We play Finnish, Russian and Karelian folk music, as well as contemporary compositions. We also try to introduce kantele into foreign cultures (North America and Far East) by using kantele as accompaniment for traditional cultural performances (i.e. dance) in recipient countries.
