Intimité (Essay film)

In our film essay we highlighted one of the features that film can give to the spectator – feeling of intimacy which appears between the screen and spectator. Moreover, during our research we highlighted five different types of intimacy. Christian Metz said that cinema is a new type of mirror, which can make it possible to identify yourself with what happens on the screen, or to alienate from it. “I watch it, but it doesn’t watch me watching it… it knows that I am watchin it. But it doesn’t want to know” (Metz, 1983, ). But in this essay film we will demonstrate that cinema can also know that you watching it, cinema denies the fact that you are watching it, cinema can close the distance and borns the question of relationship between it and viewer. I have loved the cinema. I no longer love it. I still love it. – Christian Metz, The Imaginary Signifier Authors: Denisova Varvara, Tyshchenko Dmitrii, Kuznetsov Ivan, Kariukhina Veronika University: School of Advanced Studies, Tyumen Professor: Peter Lesnik Course: Film theory 2024
