KANDOVAN a unique village in Iran- October 2023 (4k)

Kandovan is an ancient village in northwestern Iran and situated in the foothills of Mount Sahand. The village exemplifies man made cliff dwellings which are still inhabited. The homes, excavated inside volcanic rocks similar to dwellings in the Turkish region of Cappadocia.   Kandovan with its mineral water, unique houses, green valleys as well as wonderful climate, dairy products and natural mountain honey attracts many domestic and foreign tourists every spring and summer. There is even a rock hotel where travelers can relax and enjoy the area. Around 100 families live in the community with 700 inhabitants. Most residents are farmers or ranchers. Part of it deals with handicrafts. The women and girls in the village make small carpets, kilims and other woven products. Thyme and various aromatic herbs that are offered for sale on the market are also dried here. You could take medicinal plants, honey, walnuts, almonds and handicrafts with you as souvenirs. They are connected by stairs and bridges. It’s impressive how houses were carved in stone.
