Michael Sembello - Maniac (Instrumental) (WITHOUT BACKGROUND VOCALS)

from the soundtrack to the hit dance movie Flashdance (1983) only versions i could find had this tinny computer voice saying maniac along to the chorus. took me outta the mood, so i took it out, among other things funny thing about this song: [EDITED for misinformation] ever notice how weird the tone of this song was compared to the other tracks from the flashdance soundtrack? that’s because it wasnt originally FOR flashdance, it was discovered as a demo by the people working on the movie looking for songs to put on the soundtrack its actual inspiration was reports about a serial killer that sembello and cowriter matkosky heard on the news. looking for lyrical inspiration, they happened upon a gory new slasher flick released around the time they were working on the song. it helped fill in the blanks. that movie was called Maniac explains a lot knowing the song was originally about a serial killer and only later retooled to be about jennifer beals shakin her money maker makes the song exponentially better in my eyes
