PROOF: Genesis port of Mortal Kombat 2 is better!

PROOF: Genesis port of Mortal Kombat 2 is better! When I told people that Genesis port of Mortal Kombat 2 is way better than Super Nintendo’s port, nobody believed me. They called me biased, they called me crazy, they called me liar. People continued to praise the graphics, the sound of the Super Nintendo’s port. Some even claimed it to have better playability, and called it - as responsive as the Genesis port. Today I am not going to talk about the sound and visuals, even though. In my opinion, Genesis version actually do sound better - it has crispier sounds, better soundtracks and music is not too quiet or underwater if you wish. Visually, Genesis version has sharper graphics, better contrast with darker tones and higher resolution. But I am not going to talk about it. Today, I am going to concentrate on one thing only – playability. In this episode, I am going to show you both ports, side by side, in slow motion. So, we are finally going to see, which port actually responds better. But enough of this jibbery-jabbery. Let’s get down to the business. I have synchronized these two port so that if I press any button, an action should follow simultaneously. I am going to perform simple moves such as moving forward or backward, duck and jump. I might perform some special moves at times and choose different characters. All this at 25% speed. Enjoy the demonstration! First we are going to move backwards and forwards. Commands are pressed simultaneously and therefore characters should start to move at the same time and end movements also at the same time. Let’s also try to duck and jump. What about some other moves? As you can see, Super Nintendo is almost always a step behind. The cap is not huge but it is clearly noticeable and makes difference when things need to be sharp. Also, you can notice, that Genesis has more frames in animations. Unfortunately, the lag on Super Nintendo gets worse when playing against the computer. I suppose, it has not enough processing power. Okay, but lets get back to one player game. This way we have more similar situations. Another thing that you can not see in this video is that Super Nintendo sometimes can not register the input if another move was done too recently. On Genesis version I did not notice that. So here you go! Now you have proof that Super Nintendo’s port was less responsive and always one small step behind in Mortal Kombat 2. Thanks for watching!
