Shyheim (born Shyheim Dionel Franklin on November 14, 1977, in Brooklyn, New York) is a rapper and actor. Already a skilled rapper in his younger years, he became the youngest Wu-Tang affiliate at the time.
After moving to Staten Island from Brooklyn as a child Shyheim spent time living with Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah in the Stapleton Houses. He became affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan and released his first single “On and On“ in 1993. Turning the focus on himself and he gritty ghetto surroundings, he rapped “to rap out the realness in the street.“ He gained fans and won accolades for his inspired Virgin Records debut, “AKA The Rugged Child,“ which included smash singles like “On And On“ rose to number 7 on the Billboard R & B Album chart. At that time Shyheim was a lot younger than the Clan members, but he was giving viewpoints just as real as the Clan, proving he can hang with the rest of the MCs out there. Another album release in ’96, The Lost Generation, featured members of G.P. Wu and Brooklyn Zu. He also shared the stage with legendary rappers, The Notorious , Tupac Shakur and Big Daddy Kane at Madison Square Garden for a live freestyle session. His prestige also landed him an appearance on Big Daddy Kanes Show & Prove, which featured Wu-Tang member Ol Dirty Bastard, Sauce Money, Scoob Lover and Grammy Award winning rap star, Jay-Z. Shyheim landed a video appearance in TLC’s Waterfalls, roles in films: Original Gangstas, In Too Deep, and The Preacher’s Wife and also starred in the television show, The Parent Hood. After being arrested in 2001, the young emcee served a prison sentence that led to a 2-year hiatus. In 2007, Shyheim started Bottom Up Records as an opportunity for emerging artists to receive a complete opportunity to record music, learn about the behind the scenes aspects of the industry and to also prep them in company ownership.
