Nii-lante Augustus Kwamlah Quaye (1921 – 2000), known professionally as Cab Kaye, was born in a musical family in Camden, London. He combined blues, stride piano, and scat with his Ghanaian heritage. Kaye always stood up for the black community. Once Kaye performed in the Paramount Dance Hall where he was the only black man around. When a guest his entrance was refused because of his black skin, Kaye refused to perform. Because of Kaye’s protest, the acceptance of black people grew in the ‘Paramount Dance hall’.
