This video is to try to help students understand the basics of the Go Gyo no Kata. “Go“ simply means 5, “Gyo“ means to do something in a line or continuously following one after another. Kata means it’s some kind of organized pattern. Based of the 5 elements (Chi, Sui, Ka, Fu, Ku) this is a very common warm up or fundamental drill to teach the basic footwork for Ninpo Taijutsu. Based primarily off the Kihon from Gyokko Ryu. I was told it was created by Takamatsu Sensei and taught to Hatsumi sensei as a way to develop his footwork between visits to train with Takamatsu Sensei.
