A Massive CME Will Jolt Earth’s Magnetic Field - Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch For Oct. 10-11

A fast coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted from the Sun the evening of 8 October, 2024, and is likely to arrive at Earth on 10 October. This CME has been analyzed and speed estimates are 1200 to 1300 km/s. NOAA forecasters say that severe (G4) geomagnetic storms are possible on Oct. 10th and 11th when a potent fast-moving CME is expected to hit our planet’s magnetic field. SOHO coronagraphs show the storm cloud heading straight for Earth. NOAA and NASA models show that the CME will strike our planet late on Oct. 10th. The impact could spark up to 12 hours of severe storming. The aurora may become visible over much of the northern half of and maybe as far south as Alabama and northern California. Aurora will also be visible in many European countries. #solarstorm #CME #spaceweather Images credit: nemesis maturity channel, SOHO/LASCO, NOAA/SWPC, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Music credit: YouTube Audio Library Alpha Mission - Jimena Contreras
