In his ninth volume of Komitas’ songs collection Robert Atayan presents the first stanza of the song and gives some interpretation. “This is a round dance song from Mokq (Moxoene). Komitas called it a dance song though Armenian folk dance-songs can be sung without dancing. In such songs the words express love or jocks. But in some songs like this one, sometimes social phenomena, too, are expressed, e.g. Armenian peasants’ work, nature scenes and phenomena, man’s emotions, etc. This is an invaluable memory probably from old times, the song imparts such a feeling.” The song discusses the topic of leaving the country for finding work in another country.
