Jean-Michel Salanskis: From Mathematical Object to Philosophy of Culture, May 2, 2024

Professor Jean-Michel Salanskis, Visiting Scholar from the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), is presenting a seminar series at Chapman University. The series is comprised of 11 meetings between February 23 and May 10, 2024. Seminar description from Dr. Salanskis: “First I will describe three attitudes towards mathematical object: 1) seeing it as derived from truth; 2) understanding it as presenting itself; 3) looking at it as building a special kind of multiplicity, allowing for difference without concept. Then I intend to argue that Philosophy of Science should be part of Philosophy of Culture. I plan to offer a short historical review of how Philosophy of Culture was conceived in the past. I will end up with presenting my personal approach of Philosophy of Culture, which I call etho-analysis.“
