Volts! (1931)

Full titles read: “Volts! (5,000,000 of them!)“ (new title) “Yearly, enormous damage and loss of life is caused by lightning. To study methods of protection, these experiments with a 5,000,000 - volt man-made lightning bolt were made.“ United States of America. Various shots show experiments with huge electric lightning bolts inside some kind of laboratory. The electric charges are seen as a brilliant white light in the darkness. Several tests show the power of the charges as they split a block of wood clean in two and shatter a bottle of water. Another test shows how lightning rods conduct electricity away from a canister of oil, and what happens if the rods are not there. We see a still (I think) of the New York skyline as commentator explains that the metal frame of the Empire State building protects the smaller buildings around it by attracting lightning volts and conducting them harmlessly to the ground.
