Pyjama Peeps (1921)

A woman in an exotic boudoir setting smokes a cigarette whilst modelling the latest in pyjamas. c 1921 Intertitle reads: “On Adam - just pyjamas, but on Eve - things of beauty and a joy forever“ Two women show each other their new outfits. “Eve, unlike the Leopard, can change her spots - when a long fringed silken shawl or “Batik“ pyjamas of tigerish aspect entice her.“ Batik pyjamas with a “tigerish charm“ are presented to the audience. A model with her back to the camera displays a decorated shawl whilst facing her friend. It looks as if she has nothing on above the waist as she unwraps the shawl from her shoulders and holds out her arms. (Hence the title?). This may, or may not have had lesbian undertones at the time but certainly could be used to suggest 1920s lesbians now. Safety print exists. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
