Shalva Taktakishvili | Consolation

Shalva Mikheili dze Taktakishvili (1900 - 1965) - Georgian composer , honored artist of Georgian art (1949). He was born in the family of famous teacher and public figure Mikheil Takatakishvili. In 1928, he graduated from the Tbilisi Conservatory under Professor S. Barkhudarian’s piano class. In 1928, he started teaching - first in Batumi, then in Tbilisi Conservatory where he was a professor since 1941. Here he led the opera class and conducted the orchestra of the Opera Studio. Shalva Taktakishvili started his composition work already in 1922. He was one of the pioneers of the chamber-instrumental genre in Georgia. He composed 2 string quartets, two piano trios, cello songs “Cart“ and “Lullaby“. Among the works of the composer, the operas “Deputy“, “Otaraant’s Widow“, children’s operas “The World of Flowers“, “The First of May“, “Autumn, Dawn“, ballet “Maltakva“, “Symphonieta“, “Celebratory Overture“, romances, songs and many others are worth mentioning.
