As the Allied bombing raids were getting stronger, Germans began to introduce new weapons and tactics fighting this threat. Sometimes, individual officers would come up with innovative solutions. In the spring of 1943, Leutnant Heinz Knoke, a Messerschmitt Bf-109 pilot first tried a solution which at first didn’t seem like it could work - he dropped a bomb on a formation of B-17 Flying Fortresses. Was it a success? Did they try it again? See in this DCS World WWII reenactment.
