(1981) Simmons SDSV Drum Synthesizer Demo w/LinnDrum Cymbal

This is my 1981 Simmons SDSV, Serial# 362. Track was recorded in analog on a Tascam 388 and run through a DBX 164 compressor, then bounced to Logic. The unit has 6 modules: Bass, Snare, (3) Tom Toms, and digital/eprom Hi-Hat. All the pads are the original SDSV style with “riot-shield“ playing surface (countertop, more or less). The bass drum pad is from an SDS9 with the floating center. **The cymbal is triggering the LinnDrum as there is no cymbal module on this unit.** All the drum pads are basic in operation; each pad is made up of a hexagonal-shaped piece of plywood, an acrylic shell, PVC or polycarbonate playing surface, and aluminum rim. These then feed into the back of the “brain“ (up to 7 modules per unit) to trigger the modules. In this particular unit, the 3rd Tom-Tom was added on recently, and it came with the digital hi-hat module which I’m told is somewhat rare. Even more rare is the optical/light-sensing hi-hat pedal that controls the open/close effect of the module. Early hi-hats
