One of five Dornier Do 24K flying boats lost in Broome during a Japanese air raid there on 3 March 1942, the X-23. Only two have been discovered; the other one is the X-1. Fifteen flying boats in total were destroyed on Broome’s Roebuck Bay that day. Despite the heavy losses on many of the MLD machines (and 1 RAF Catalina), only one persons was killed on this Dornier - Charles Laurens van Houten, MILMATRTLG in the MLD.
