Cement (1940-1949)

British Instructional Films presents an Associated British-Pathe Production. Industrial landscape. Quarry and processing plant. A mechanical digger scoops up chalk from the quarry and dumps it into large containers. These are then pulled along by a train to the processing plant. Clay is extracted by a digger. The train arrives at the plant. Cement slurry is made by a mixture of clay, chalk and water. Various machines and industrial processes shown. The slurry is mixed in a large vat. Slurry is pumped into a kiln which makes clinker. Graphic animation is used to show how slurry enters the kiln, burning coal dust heats the slurry and clinker is produced. Man looks into machine. We see a tube turning around with a light source at the end. Other processes. Machines turning. Clinker is cooled and ground into cement. Another graphic animation.
