Ruined Town (1914-1918)

Ruined Town. France? Pan on some burned tree trunks; collapsed small building by road. Cut to major damage in city - pan left on a large open square; cobblestones or brick - this intact; but surrounded by totally bombed out or collapsed buildings; some people walking across the big space - widow in black; someone across square walking a small dog; 2 women walk together. Looks really bizarre - ruins of the buildings stick up at angles forming a jagged backdrop. Western front scene - an ex-forest; all burned; black sticks sticking up. Quick cut to something that looks like water. Back to the ruins of city; panning across. Woman passes in FG; a few soldiers in BG - really great ruins! An impressive building; pillars; clock tower; etc. - looks like a government building - still standing; but battered. Pan left; at side of this; pile of rubble.
