Where There’s A Will (1914-1918)

Where There’s A Will There’s A Way - Officer: ’Sorry my lad - chest too small, try the YMCA course’. London. Short film about a would-be soldier who’s too puny - like a Charles Atlas advertisement; but for the YMCA. Man in civilian clothing walks up to doorway of London Fusiliers HQ; where 3 soldiers stand; speaks to one of the men; who shows him out - he’s just tried to sign up. Next shot a sign for rejected men to take free physical training at the YMCA; same man walks up & looks; enters. CU man standing opposite instructor; w/ hands clasped behind head; stands leaning back - then bending forward - like vertical sit-ups. At last; he stands at officers desk - officer points to own chest - like ’what about your chest size?’. The man hands him a card - apparently from the Y; saying he’s finished a training course. Officer seems satisfied and is chatting away; as our little story is cut off. Comedy. Exercises; body building. World War One. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPL
