Satan and Adam, “Groovy People“ (early 1990s)

Sterling Magee and Adam Gussow, as Satan and Adam, play an original composition, “Groovy People,“ in a park just north of Dyckman Street in the Inwood section of Manhattan (NYC). In the ALL MUSIC GUIDE TO THE BLUES, WRSU-FM DJ Richard Skelley wrote that “Magee and Gussow specialize in funky, gritty, electric urban blues, and there are few groups or artists anywhere who sound anything remotely like and Adam have redefined and shaped the sound of modern blues so much that “I Want You“ from their HARLEM BLUES debut was included on a Rhino Records release, MODERN BLUES OF THE 1990S.“ For those who don’t know the story: when Gussow first encountered Magee playing on the street in Harlem in 1986, Magee identified himself as “Satan,“ and everybody around him called him “Satan“ and “Mr. Satan.“ The duo’s performing name, Satan and Adam, was simply the title that Gussow put on the duo’s first demo cassette, since the
