HELIOT EMIL ’Torqued Ellipse’ Spring Summer 2020 Show

Named after the steel sculpture series by Richard Serra, the HELIOT EMIL™ SS20 collection titled ‘Torqued Ellipse’ explores the relationship between form and function. A 4 x 8 x10m 5cm steel sheet is bent in an oval shape and torqued on its own axis. An unconventional, industrial material exploring a shape which many experts told Serra were impossible to create. Viewers were encouraged to move around or through the works to explore how the sculptures both add or subtract from space. Richard Serra’s ‘Torqued Ellipses’ series inspired designer Julius Juul to explore softer shapes, and unconventional materials. Constructing with the distinctive HELIOT EMIL™ silhouettes and experimenting by adding or subtracting shapes.
