Eduardo Jose Alves Souto (Sao Vicente, April 14, 1882 – Rio de Janeiro, August 18, 1942), better known simply as Eduardo Souto, he was a Brazilian pianist, composer and conductor. He dedicated himself to different genres, such as waltz, tango and samba, with emphasis on the popularization of marches carnivalesque. He was the founder of Casa Carlos Gomes, an important meeting point for musicians in Rio de Janeiro in the first half of the 20th century. He composed the fado-choro “O awakening from the mountain“ in 1919, a work that made him known in salons and soirees period, entering the traditional Brazilian piano repertoire.
