NOW! Tsunami warning after magnitude 7.2 earthquake off Peru!

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake rocked southern Peru on Friday. The tremors occurred at 00:36 local time, when people were already sleeping. The epicenter was located in the ocean at a depth of 28 kilometers, 8 kilometers west of Atikipa. The tremors were felt as far as Lima, the country’s capital. Later, several aftershocks with a magnitude of more than 4 were recorded. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu said waves of up to three meters were possible. On social networks, eyewitnesses share footage of the natural disaster. Furniture shook in the houses and objects fell from shelves. Some residents woke up and left their homes. Rockslides have been reported on the Uraski-Secoca highway. Several buildings received minor damage. There were no reports of injuries. Damage information is being updated.
