High winds hit Istanbul in Turkey on November 29th 2021. Winds of up to 130km/h were recorded as storms hit Istanbul. Planes were grounded due to the force of the wind, with travellers left stranded. Electricity outages were reported as power cables were destroyed. Roofs were ripped off of buildings, and wooden structures were torn down. Motorists and pedestrians were hit by flying debris. Elsewhere, vehicles such as lkrrys and boats were blown over by the wind. This storm continues an extended period of bad weather in the Mediterranean region, with storms and floods hitting Southern Europe and Northern Africa throughout November. Residents were advised to stay indoors during the storm period, which is expected to last for at least one further day. Authorities are assessing the damage caused and helping affected citizens.
